Another update from the land of Oz.  We’ve had a chance to be in town for the past few weekends, although the weather has been a bit shaky (for Sydney - I realise we live in paradise), with rain on most days in the past few weeks.  This has allowed us to do something we’ve been talking about a bit more recently, which is to experience the city a bit more.  We had planned on doing that when people came to visit, but we’ve had precious few visitors so we’re not going to wait around.

As part of Dana’s birthday present from Dale, we went to an Opera at the Opera house.  The opera house was really cool, although I now realise that opera itself may be beyond my cultural abilities.  A little more my speed was something called “Sculpture by the Sea”, which Dana and I were invited to through my work.  This is where a hundred or so original, commissioned sculptures are displayed along the cliff walk between Bondi and Tamarama beaches.  Really neat stuff - the scenery and location makes the experience really good, as was the fact that the curator of the annual exhibit was there to give us the tour and talk to each piece.

Then finally on Saturday we were able to attend U2’s Vertigo show.  We started by catching a cocktail ferry with food and drink for the hour long (going slowly) ride up the river to Homebush, where the Olympic Stadium is.  What a spectacle.  Kanye West opened the show and was reallly good, although we only arrived half way through his performance.  Then the place filled up (100,000 people apparently) as U2 took the stage.  We haven’t been the biggest fans of their most recent stuff, but they put on a great show with a good mix of new stuff and classics.  The light and video show was really cool.

So what’s up next for us?  Well, we’re both busy at work at the moment - especially me.  We are, however, looking forward to our long weekend in 8 days on Fraser Island.  Dale is coming across for his birthday and we’ll be driving around the world’s largest sand island in a Land Rover, camping with the dingos.  Should be fun!
