Fireworks

It’s been a little while since our last post but believe me we’ve been busy.  Our second (SECOND!) Australia day has passed us and we’ve now been down here over 13 months.  It’s been great experience so far.  We hope to have some more visitors this year to enjoy the great weather and explore Australia and so far we’re off to a good start.  Dana’s parents were in town for 3 weeks and stayed with us, followed closely by her Aunt Patricia.  We thoroughly enjoyed all the activities we got up to - it was a good way for Dana and I to make sure we were taking in the city.

 Harbour

Some of those things included…Barry (Dana’s dad) and I doing the harbour bridge climb.  Now this is a spectacular experience that I would recommend to anyone who visits Sydney.  It’s high up but you would probably have to have a well developed fear fo heights to have an issue - they really make you feel safe and secure.  The only bummer is that you’re so geared up they don’t let you bring you camera with you (I assume in case you drop it).  We’ve also seen a few additional movies at that outdoor theatre as well. 10 Canoes, an Australian flick telling one fo the aboriginal legends which was very good, and the Prestige, which was surprisingly good as well.  Always a nice night.

Ferry race

We largely re-created our original Australia day from last year - an early ceremony in the botanical gardens followed by walking around the city and taking in the sights along with millions of other people.  We caught the ferry races this year in which hundreds upon hundreds of boats clog the harbour around a few sponsored ferries that race up and down the harbour - just bedlam.  I didn’t see any, but there must have been accidents, sinkings etc.

Now that we’re all alone in the house again (except for the cats) we’re busy catching up on work and enjoying the summer - it’s hot, humid and fantastic.  Dana is currently in Perth on business and will be staying the weekend with Dale.  We’re looking forward to my Mom coming out in late March and our trip into the red center, Darwin/Kakadu and Cairns.
